Why Google Ads Conversions Don’t Match CRM Data

Different platforms often count leads differently. The important question is whether the numbers are useful enough to guide budget and bidding decisions.

Why the numbers can be different

Google Ads, GA4, form tools, and CRM systems each collect data from a different part of the customer journey. A form submission, phone call, imported conversion, or CRM-qualified lead may all describe a different stage of the same lead.

Problems happen when those stages are mixed together or counted more than once.

Common causes

  • Duplicate conversion actions in Google Ads and GA4
  • Imported conversions counted alongside direct website conversions
  • Missing UTM data between the website and CRM
  • Lead forms firing conversion events before a real submission is complete
  • Phone calls and web forms reported as the same type of lead

What to review first

Start by mapping the full path from click to CRM record. Then decide which actions should be primary conversions, which should be secondary signals, and which events should only be used for reporting.
